Younch Hotel in Xi'an, designed with MUDA Architects, is conceived as a boutique retreat that sets aside luxury and novelty in favor of material essence, drawing on local folk culture and keeping its distance from the noise of the city. The lighting follows the same restraint, aiming for a quiet, immersive interior defined by soft, warm ambient light.
Light sources are kept out of view throughout. Small recessed downlights, slot lights and backlighting are integrated into the architecture, so surfaces glow rather than fixtures. Decorative lights add points of warmth where the interior calls for them.
The approach lets the spaces read calmly, with the architecture and its materials, not the lighting, in the foreground.
